MELAWATI HAWKERS CENTRE
Taman Melawati Town Centre, Selangor Darul Ehsan.
Situated in a very strategic location in the middle of Taman Melawati town centre, the 3 acre land which was originally gazetted as green area was selected by Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ) to relocate 100 units of hawkers stalls.
The square layout which formed an enclosed courtyard allows the building to segregate a beautiful landscape area from a heavily congested traffic on the outside. Stalls at ground floor level which faces the road are designed with double frontage to create a welcoming gesture at street level. A circular stage placed in the middle of the courtyard formed as part of the landscape features.
Additional facilities provided for the hawkers centre are praying room, maintenance office, MPAJ enforcement office, a large parking area for multi-purpose use and spaces for additional stalls. Melawati Hawkers Centre houses 88 units of food stalls, 24 units of groceries and fruits stall and 20 units of movable stalls. With a total of 132 units of stalls, it is now the largest hawkers centre in Malaysia and was awarded as the Best Hawkers Centre Design during the 1996 Annual Local Authority Meeting.
